CDE 2025: Project
Step-by-Step Guide to Completing Your CDE Worksheet Project
Follow these steps to design your course description and worksheet, ensuring alignment with the 20-point rubric.
Step 1: Develop Your Course Description (10 points)
Presentation: Create a presentation or a webpage on Yonote, Tilda Docs, or Google Slides (any platforms available in Russia that allow to create and post a well-formatted presentation or a web page).
1. Course Overview (2 points)
- Course Introduction: includes a) catchy and descriptive course name, b) the overall goal that conveys the value of the course, c) the timing & duration of the course
- Brief Information about the Project Team and its members
- Course Learning Outcomes are a) detailed and specific (action verbs are used), b) presented in a logical structured way, c) linked to needed skills and to the purpose of the course (implicitly or explicitly)
2. Context & Syllabus (3 points)
- Principles: at least 5 guiding principles based on theory are formulated: the importance of principles for the course is explicitly explained
- Format (the course delivery mode) is stated as well as reasons for its choice, explained why the format is suitable for the target audience and learning outcomes
- Syllabus a) is logically structured: a sensible progression is visible; b) presents organizing principles (task-based, topic-based, etc.) and types of sequencing (modular/linear/spiral/matrix).
3. Unit Description (5 points)
- Unit Terminal Outcomes a) are clearly formulated, b) list what can be assessed (e.g., "Learners will be able to debate ethical dilemmas in healthcare") in a summative way, c) describe the behavior the learner will exhibit & the conditions under which the behavior must occur
- Table linking Unit outcomes with a) course learning outcomes; b) unit activities
- Table linking 6 learning events (e.g., presentation, guided practice, freer production) to your materials:
Grading: 5 points total (1 for outcomes, 2 for each table)
Step 2: Design Your Worksheet (8 points)
Your worksheet will be graded on 4 sections, each worth 2 points (8 points total).
Evaluation is sequential: Each section is assessed only if the previous one scores at least 3/4 points.
1. Relevance (2 points)
Criteria:
1.1 Materials embody modern communicative methods (e.g., task-based, flipped classroom).
1.2 Peer-oriented: Solves real learner needs (e.g., addresses common errors observed in class).
1.3 Aligns with the course’s overall goal and topics.
1.4 Directly supports stated unit outcomes (as reflected in the table in the previous section).
Note: To proceed to Structure evaluation, you must score at least 4/4 here.
2. Structure (2 points)
Criteria:
2.1 At least 4 out of 6 learning events are included (e.g., warm-up, presentation, practice, production, etc.).
2.2 Logical sequencing (as reflected in the table in the previous section).
2.3 Clear, concise instructions (e.g., “Discuss in pairs: Which advice would you give?”).
2.4 Tasks integrate skills (e.g., listening) and systems (e.g., functional language).
Note: To proceed to Authenticity evaluation, you must score at least 3/4 here.
3. Authenticity (2 points)
Criteria:
3.1 Uses an unmodified authentic resource (e.g., news article, podcast clip).
3.2 Activities align with the text’s original purpose (e.g., a recipe → write a cooking video script).
3.3 Tasks mirror real-world applications (e.g., “Write a Yelp review using target adjectives”).
3.4 Adapts tasks (not the text) for learners (e.g., add scaffolding questions, not simplified language).
Note: To proceed to Impact evaluation, you must score at least 3/4 here.
4. Impact (2 points)
Criteria:
4.1 Illustrations are vivid, informative, and culturally relevant (e.g., infographics, memes).
4.2 Content is engaging (e.g., gamified tasks, relatable scenarios).
4.3 Activities are challenging but comprehensible & achievable.
4.4 Visually lowers the affective filter (e.g., clean layout, 2 fonts maximum, contrasting colors).
Key reminder:
- Sequential Grading: If you score below 3/4 in any section, the subsequent sections will not be evaluated.
- Example: If you score 2/4 in Relevance, your worksheet’s total score is capped at 2/16.
Step 3: Design Teacher's Notes (2 points)
Make sure your the materials do not make too many demands on teachers’ preparation time and include
- Specific commentaries on the main assessment tools consisting of checklists / holistic / analytical rubrics
- Teacher's notes and/or answer keys
Key Deadlines
